About the Proposed Redistricting

To: Gov. Lee, Rep. Hakeem, Sen. Gardenhire

From: A constituent in Chattanooga, TN

May 5

I'm writing to implore you NOT to support redrawing TN congressional districts. First, as you know, TN law currently prohibits redrawing districts between apportionments, which is supposed to happen after the 10-year census. That law should not been ended. Second, if the legislature redraws the districts as Sen. Blackburn has proposed, you will disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters in District 9. Third, redistricting after the deadline to be on the ballot has already passed will be costly for the state--at a time when costs for everything are already higher than last year. The goal of our legislature and legislators should be to make life more fair, more equitable, more just for Tennesseans--not to just maintain power in the hands of one group of people forever. When did politics become a zero-sum game where one side only wants to stay in power forever. This proposed redistricting is illegal and should not be allowed to happen. Please do not support this proposed redistricting.
