To remove nearly 400 titles that include critical works on diversity, civil rights, and the Holocaust—while leaving Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler untouched—is not only chilling but historically unmistakable. That the U.S. military would ban works by Maya Angelou and Elie Wiesel, while retaining Hitler’s manifesto, under Pentagon directive, is indefensible and signals the normalization of fascist ideology in our institutions. This act, however, is just one piece of an increasingly authoritarian puzzle. Let me be perfectly clear: we are watching the full dismantling of constitutional democracy unfold in real time. The Trump regime has openly ignored Supreme Court rulings—repeatedly. Federal agents have disappeared legal residents off the streets without due process. Visas and green cards are being revoked with no legitimate cause, and Trump has declared his intention to deport American citizens to El Salvadoran detention camps. That is not hyperbole; that is fascism. He has called for the shutdown of media outlets. He has frozen federal grants to universities that do not align with his ideological agenda—punishing institutions of higher learning for defending academic freedom. Meanwhile, Speaker Mike Johnson invited Matt Walsh—a man who openly identifies as a “theocratic fascist”—to the State of the Union. Earlier, Trump attended a UFC event in Miami to support Bryce Mitchell, a fighter who publicly declared that Hitler “wasn’t that bad” and defended him. That is not simply offensive—it is an endorsement of genocidal ideology. At this point, we have moved far beyond democratic erosion. We are living under a regime that openly embraces and promotes fascist authoritarianism. If Congress does not take decisive action now, the consequences will be irreversible.
