Reject Medicaid Cuts Financing Tax Cuts For Wealthy

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer, Rep. Espaillat

From: A constituent in New York, NY

February 25

The House Republicans' budget proposal to cut federal funding for the Medicaid expansion is deeply concerning. Slashing Medicaid spending would jeopardize healthcare coverage for over 21 million low-income Americans who gained access through the Affordable Care Act's Medicaid expansion. This move would force states to either bear the massive costs of maintaining coverage or cut enrollment, inevitably leaving millions uninsured. Moreover, using these drastic Medicaid cuts to offset the cost of extending tax cuts that disproportionately benefit the wealthy is an unconscionable tradeoff. It prioritizes tax breaks for the affluent over access to essential healthcare for vulnerable populations. Gutting a vital safety net program like Medicaid, which provides a lifeline for millions, cannot be justified to finance tax policies that overwhelmingly favor the rich. I urge you to reject any budget that undermines the healthcare security of millions of Americans for the sake of tax cuts tilted towards the wealthy. Access to quality, affordable healthcare should be a priority, not an expendable bargaining chip. I implore you to safeguard Medicaid and ensure all Americans can obtain the medical care they need without sacrificing this crucial program on the altar of tax cuts for the rich.
