I need you to oppose the executive order that attempts to strip states of their constitutional authority to run elections and hand that power to the U.S. Postal Service and Department of Homeland Security.
This order violates the Elections Clause, which reserves election administration to state legislatures and Congress. It directs USPS to refuse delivery of ballots from voters not on flawed federal lists compiled from databases never designed for this purpose. The SAVE program, one data source, has a very high error rate and frequently flags American citizens as potential noncitizens. Eligible voters who turn 18 or naturalize within 60 days of an election would be excluded entirely.
The order threatens state and local election officials with criminal prosecution for issuing ballots to voters not on these faulty federal lists, even without criminal intent. It could also sweep in election vendors, postal workers, and civic volunteers. States that refuse to surrender voter lists to USPS or adopt federally mandated ballot designs could see all their mail ballots blocked.
This is a federal takeover of state election systems that will disenfranchise eligible Americans and create chaos. Defend state authority over elections and oppose this unconstitutional power grab.
