I am writing to urge you to immediately end the terrorizing of families in the United States through ICE raids and immigration enforcement tactics that violate the spirit of justice and humanity. These actions have created a climate of fear that reaches far beyond the undocumented community, shaking the sense of safety and belonging for millions of families who call this country home.
Reports and images of agents entering homes with masked faces and heavy weaponry are chilling. These scenes evoke not law and order, but intimidation and cruelty. They strip away dignity and due process, two pillars of our legal system, by targeting people without transparency or accountability. Families are being torn apart without fair hearings, and children are left traumatized and afraid of the very government that is supposed to protect them.
This kind of enforcement erodes public trust and weakens communities. When families fear reporting crimes, sending their children to school, or seeking medical help, our society becomes less safe for everyone. True security does not come from fear; it comes from fairness, stability, and the belief that all people will be treated humanely under the law.
America has long prided itself on being a melting pot, a nation built by immigrants seeking safety, freedom, and opportunity. If we wish to uphold that legacy, we must reform our immigration system so that people can come here safely, work honestly, and contribute openly without fear of being hunted in their neighborhoods.
The recent wave of self-deportations based on fear shows the human toll of these policies. Women and families are returning to countries where they face homelessness, statelessness, violence, and sexual abuse. No government that claims to value life and liberty can justify policies that drive vulnerable people back into such danger.
I urge you to stop the raids, end the use of masked and militarized tactics in immigration enforcement, and work toward comprehensive reform that honors both compassion and the rule of law. America’s strength has always come from its ability to welcome and integrate, not to divide and terrorize.
