Opposition to H.R.1279: Protect Medicaid, Protect Our Communities
I am writing to strongly urge you to oppose H.R.1279, which would impose community eng agement requirements on Medicaid recipients. This amendment would create harmful and unnecessary barriers to healthcare for some of our most vulnerable neighbors, including low-income workers, careg ivers, people with disabilities, and communities of color, many of whom already struggle with systemic inequities. se of bureaucratic red tape, confusing reporting requirements, and administrative errors. Evidence from similar policies in other states has shown that thousands of eligible individuals lost coverage not because they refused to work, but becau This amendment does not promote work; it threatens health, destabilizes lives, and drives up healthcare costs by forcing people to delay care until emerg ency intervention is needed. It also creates a costly and complex administrative burden for states without delivering the promised savings or workforce gains. Reject this misguided policy and instead focus on solutions that expand access to care, address root causes of poverty, and promote true economic opportunity.
