I am writing because I am terrified. Federal immigration agents are being sent into Georgia — my state — as part of the same ICE surge that has already turned Minneapolis and Saint Paul into war zones. This so-called “Operation Metro Surge” has already led to multiple shootings by federal agents in Minneapolis, including the killings of Renée Nicole Good on January 7, 2026 and Alex Jeffrey Pretti on January 24, 2026. People in Minnesota have been shot while exercising their rights. They’ve been detained without cause and terrorized in their own neighborhoods. Peaceful protests and observers have been targeted. There are lawsuits and federal judges limiting ICE retaliation because the abuses are so rampant. Now federal ICE teams are headed into Georgia. I am terrified for my immigrant neighbors, friends, and community members who will be caught up in this illegal siege on our country. People are scared to go outside. People are being shot in the streets by their own government. Congress must act now. Cut funding for ICE’s involvement in this militarized surge.
Hold immediate Congressional hearings to expose what is happening and demand accountability.
Pass meaningful reforms that protect civil liberties and community safety.
And if evidence shows constitutional violations at the highest levels, pursue accountability up to and including impeachment. If federal agents can kill U.S. citizens and terrorize communities with no consequences, the rule of law is collapsing. Our leaders should be doing everything in their power to stop this, and I will be doing everything in mine.
