Urgent Opposition to Imposed Governance on Gaza I am writing with deep concern regarding recent reports that an international plan to form a governing body for Gaza will be announced by year's end. While framed as a solution, this plan fundamentally undermines Palestinian self-determination by denying Palestinians the sovereign right to choose their own leadership and political future. The article from Ground.news details proposals developed without meaningful Palestinian representation. This approach is unacceptable. Any lasting peace and legitimate governance in Gaza must originate from the will of its people, not from external powers, particularly those like Israel, which is currently engaged in a devastating military assault on the territory. Israel, as an occupying power, has no legitimate right to dictate the political future of the Palestinian people. Imposing a government or security arrangement—whether directly or through international intermediaries—constitutes a continuation of the denial of Palestinian sovereignty. True stability can only be built on autonomy and democratic consent, not on frameworks designed by the very actors responsible for the current destruction. The principle of self-determination is a cornerstone of international law. The people of Gaza, who have endured a 17-year blockade and now catastrophic war, must be the primary architects of their own recovery and governance. The United States must reject any plan that usurps this fundamental right. I urge you to: 1. Publicly oppose any international or Israeli-imposed governing body for Gaza. 2. Advocate unequivocally that Palestinians must determine their own leadership and political structures through free and democratic processes, without external interference. 3. Condition any U.S. diplomatic or financial support for post-war plans on this principle of genuine self-determination. Continuing to support policies that deny Palestinian agency perpetuates conflict and injustice. I expect you to champion a future where Palestinians, like all people, govern themselves.
