Call for immediate ceasefire, protect Palestinian civilians in Gaza

To: Pres. Biden, Rep. Courtney, Sen. Blumenthal, Sen. Murphy

From: A constituent in East Hampton, CT

May 16

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has reached catastrophic levels, with the latest Israeli airstrike on the Maghazi refugee camp killing at least 70 civilians, including 12 women and 7 children. This senseless violence must stop immediately. I urge you to call for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the indiscriminate bombing of densely populated areas like refugee camps. The cycle of violence will only continue unless decisive action is taken. Furthermore, it is crucial to reconsider the provision of arms and funding to Israel until they demonstrate a commitment to protecting civilian lives and upholding international law. Instead, funding should be redirected towards assisting Palestinian refugees through organizations like UNRWA, which has been providing vital aid to those displaced by the conflict. The disproportionate suffering of the Palestinian people, many of whom have been rendered homeless and without access to basic necessities, is a humanitarian crisis that demands immediate attention and action from the international community. We must prioritize human lives over political agendas and work towards a just and lasting peace in the region.
