Reconsider VA's inflexible return-to-office mandate

To: Sen. Ossoff, Rep. Allen, Sen. Warnock

From: A constituent in Augusta, GA

February 7

The Department of Veterans Affairs' new policy requiring most employees to return to in-person work is concerning. While in-person collaboration can be beneficial, many federal workers have proven their ability to work productively and efficiently remotely during the pandemic. Forcing a blanket return to office for those performing well creates unnecessary disruption and fails to recognize the advantages of telework options like improved work-life balance, reduced commute times, and access to a wider talent pool. Rather than mandating an inflexible approach, the VA should assess telework policies based on job roles, performance metrics, and employee needs. Maintaining some remote work flexibility, at least for certain positions, would allow the VA to retain top talent, boost morale, and adapt to the future of work. I urge you to reconsider this new policy and adopt a more nuanced, evidence-based approach that prioritizes productivity and supports the modern workforce.
