Demand to Withhold Federal Budget Approval Until DOGE Is Brought Under Control

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer, Rep. Espaillat

From: A constituent in New York, NY

March 2

I am writing to express my concern about the recent actions and implications of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). While the intention behind creating DOGE may have been to streamline federal operations, its execution appears to be raising significant concerns about transparency, accountability, and its impact on essential public services. It is becoming increasingly clear that the measures being implemented by DOGE may threaten the safety and well-being of average American families, particularly if cost-cutting efforts are prioritized over the quality and accessibility of critical services. Furthermore, the influence of powerful individuals and interests disconnected from the everyday realities of American families raises questions about whose interests DOGE truly serves. In light of these concerns, I urge you to refuse to pass any federal budget until the following issues are adequately addressed: 1. Full Transparency: Require a detailed report on DOGE’s actions, budget allocations, and decision-making processes to ensure the public is informed about the department’s true impact. 2. Safeguards Against Overreach: Establish clear limitations on DOGE’s authority to prevent undue influence by wealthy individuals or groups who may benefit disproportionately from its policies. 3. Protection of Essential Services: Ensure that efforts to improve efficiency do not come at the expense of essential services that millions of Americans rely on, such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. 4. Public Accountability: Introduce mechanisms for public feedback and oversight to hold DOGE accountable for its actions and ensure that it serves the interests of the American people. Until these steps are taken, approving a federal budget that empowers DOGE without proper checks and balances would be a disservice to the constituents you represent. I urge you to take a stand for transparency, accountability, and the well-being of ordinary Americans by withholding support for the federal budget until these concerns are thoroughly addressed. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
