Pass Puerto Rico Statehood Legislation Now

To: Sen. Markey, Rep. Moulton, Sen. Warren

From: A constituent in Groveland, MA

October 15

Pass legislation to admit Puerto Rico as the 51st state. More than 3.2 million American citizens living in Puerto Rico have no voting representation in Congress and no vote for president. That is a democratic deficit that has gone on far too long. Puerto Ricans serve in the U.S. military, pay federal taxes, and have been U.S. citizens since 1917. They are subject to every federal law but have no say in making those laws. Statehood would fix that, and Puerto Ricans have voted in favor of statehood in multiple referendums. The will of the people is clear. Congress has the power and the obligation to act. Vote yes on Puerto Rico statehood and end more than a century of second-class citizenship for over three million Americans.
