I am writing to urge you to advocate for a presidential pardon for Steven Donziger, a human rights lawyer who has become a symbol of corporate accountability and environmental justice.
Mr. Donziger represented indigenous communities in Ecuador after Chevron dumped 16 billion gallons of toxic waste into the Amazon, poisoning rivers, land, and lives. He secured a historic $9.5 billion judgment for the victims, providing a measure of justice for the cancer, birth defects, and devastation Chevron left behind.
Instead of accepting accountability, Chevron weaponized the courts to attack Mr. Donziger. Using unprecedented legal tactics, the company has sought to destroy him personally and professionally, chilling efforts to hold corporations accountable for environmental and human rights abuses. Mr. Donziger’s continued persecution is not only unjust but a dangerous precedent for activists and lawyers fighting for justice.
President Biden has the power to right this wrong. Pardoning Steven Donziger would send a clear message that our government stands with those who protect human rights, the environment, and the rule of law—not with corporations that evade accountability for their crimes.
Please, speak out and call on President Biden to issue a pardon for Steven Donziger. His case is a matter of justice and a test of our nation’s commitment to upholding the rights of individuals over unchecked corporate power.
Thank you for your time and attention to this critical issue.
