Congress must immediately reclaim its constitutional authority over war powers. I have written to you many times urging Congress to fulfill its responsibility under Article I of the Constitution. That responsibility is now more urgent than ever. The United States appears to be sliding deeper into what risks becoming another protracted, open-ended conflict in the Middle East. Military actions continue to escalate, and each exchange increases the danger of drawing our nation into a wider regional war. Regardless of one's views of Iran or any other nation, decisions that could commit the United States to sustained military conflict must not rest solely with the executive branch. President Trump chose to expand U.S. military involvement in coordination with Israel, and now reports indicate additional strikes and retaliatory missile attacks are occurring. This cycle of escalation demonstrates exactly why Congress was given the power to debate and authorize war. The American people deserve transparency, accountability, and a full public debate before our nation is drawn further into another war of choice. I urge you to act now to reassert Congress's constitutional war powers. Demand a full debate and recorded vote before any further offensive military operations are authorized. Support legislation that requires explicit congressional authorization for continued military engagement and strengthens oversight of any ongoing operations. Our nation has spent decades and trillions of dollars in "forever wars" that have cost countless American and civilian lives while leaving many regions no more stable than before. We cannot continue repeating this pattern. Diplomacy, restraint, and congressional accountability must take precedence over continued military escalation. Please stand up for the Constitution and for the American people by exercising Congress's authority over matters of war and peace.
