Don’t Cut Maize Research

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer, Rep. Goldman

From: A verified voter in New York, NY

June 16

For nearly 100 years, the Maize Genetics Cooperation Stock Center (Maize COOP) has curated and maintained the most comprehensive set of maize genetic stocks in the world. These resources underlie many of our discoveries about agriculture and enable our research here in the US. The current Presidential budget calls for closure and moving of the USDA-ARS facility in Urbana, Illinois, which hosts the Maize COOP. Serious disruption of the COOP’s operations and loss of irreplaceable genetic resources along with decades of institutional knowledge could occur. Please protect the Maize COOP!
