An Open Letter
To: Sen. Hagerty, Sen. Blackburn, Rep. Kustoff, Pres. Trump
From: A constituent in Dyersburg, TN
November 5
I am writing to you as a constituent who is profoundly disturbed and outraged by the ongoing human rights violations committed by the Israeli government against the Palestinian people. I am calling on you to take immediate and decisive action by publicly condemning these actions, using your voice and vote to end all military aid to Israel, and demanding an end to what leading human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have definitively labeled as apartheid and what the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has found plausible to be a case of genocide. The recent arrest of a former Israeli military legal official for leaking a video showing the abuse of a Palestinian detainee is not an isolated incident. It is a symptom of a deeply entrenched system of impunity. This case perfectly illustrates the Israeli government's priority: punishing those who expose war crimes, rather than the perpetrators who commit them. When the whistleblower is jailed and the crime is covered up, it demonstrates a fundamental refusal to adhere to international law and basic human decency. This is not accountability; it is a cover-up. It is part of a decades-long pattern where human rights violations—including illegal settlement expansion, collective punishment, disproportionate force, and detention without trial—are systematically denied, whitewashed, or met with insignificant consequences. The United States must not be complicit in this system. Our annual provision of over $3.8 billion in unconditional military aid makes us a direct participant in enabling these atrocities. By supplying the weapons and diplomatic cover, we are signaling that Israel's actions are acceptable. They are not. Therefore, I urgently request that you: 1. Publicly and unequivocally denounce Israel's practices of apartheid, its ongoing military campaign in Gaza which the ICJ has deemed a plausible genocide, and its systematic human rights violations in the West Bank. 2. Co-sponsor and vote for legislation that conditions, suspends, and ultimately ends all military assistance to Israel until there is a verifiable and permanent end to its occupation, apartheid policies, and military assaults on civilian populations. 3. Demand a full and independent investigation into the abuse video and the subsequent arrest of the whistleblower, as a specific case study of Israel's suppression of accountability. Silence in the face of injustice is complicity. The values we claim to uphold as a nation—human rights, democracy, and the rule of law—are being irreparably damaged by our unwavering support for the Israeli government's actions. I expect you to represent the growing number of Americans who demand a foreign policy rooted in justice and equality for all people, Palestinians and Israelis alike. I look forward to your swift and concrete response outlining the steps you will take to address this critical issue.
