No More Million-Dollar Pardons

To: Sen. Slotkin, Rep. McDonald Rivet, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Midland, MI

December 29

I am writing to urge you to stop the presidential money-making pardon schemes. Trump is using his presidency to increase the wealth of himself, his family, and his allies. According to the Wall Street Journal, the president is granting pardons and charging up to one million dollars to do so. That means that any crook with money and/or political connections can be pardoned without due process. It is yet one more way that our sitting president rakes in funds. Since his inauguration, Trump has granted over 1500 pardons, including a blanket pardon for Jan. 6 participants. The president has also pardoned friends and allies with no hesitation. This undermines public confidence in the pardon process – even with presidents have honest intentions. Our current president only seeks to make allies and cash. The current pardoning usage is wrong. Nobody should be able to purchase justice – that’s not what our country believes. Please speak out and put a stop to this!
