Ensure No Child in America Goes Hungry

To: Pres. Trump, Sen. Blackburn, Rep. DesJarlais, Sen. Hagerty

From: A constituent in Rockvale, TN

April 15

The statistics on child hunger in America are deeply concerning. With nearly 14 million children facing food insecurity, and children of color and those from single-parent households disproportionately affected, it is clear that urgent action is needed to address this crisis. The effects of hunger, including poor academic performance, increased health problems, and developmental differences, can have long-lasting impacts on children's lives and futures. We must prioritize ensuring that every child has access to sufficient, nutritious food. I urge you to take decisive steps to strengthen and expand programs that provide food assistance to children, such as school meal programs, summer feeding initiatives, and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. These programs have proven effective in reducing child hunger and improving health and educational outcomes. Additionally, efforts should be made to address the root causes of food insecurity, including low incomes, lack of affordable housing, and systemic racism and discrimination. Investing in these initiatives is not only a moral imperative but also an investment in our nation's future. Children who have their basic needs met are better equipped to learn, grow, and contribute to society. Let us work together to ensure that no child in America goes hungry and that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
