Protect Federal Employee Pay and Benefits

Every member of Congress depends on hardworking federal workers in their states and districts to deliver the services their constituents depend on, and they need to know that paying for billionaires’ tax cuts on the backs of federal workers will, in the end, only hurt their constituents. Raising FERS Contribution Rates for all federal employees, regardless of when they joined the workforce, to 4.4 Percent. The effect of raising the FERS contribution rate would amount to a 3.6% pay cut for federal employees hired before 2012 and a 1.3% pay cut for federal employees hired in 2013. This cut would amount to as much as a $50,000 loss for over one million federal employees. Eliminating FERS Supplemental Retirement Payments The FERS supplement serves as a crucial income bridge for certain federal employees who are required by law to retire at age 55 -- mostly air traffic controllers and federal law enforcement officers -- until they reach 62, at which point they become eligible for Social Security. Basing FERS Retiree Benefit on High-5 Instead of High-3 Salary This change would be to reduce the federal employee’s retirement annuity so that we can further line the pockets of billionaires. Changing the terms of retirement that federal employees, many of whom are or soon will be eligible to retire, agreed to when they started in the federal workforce would be unfair and throw a wrench in our retirement planning. Raising employee premiums for Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) This change would impose greater costs on federal employees for their health insurance and reduce our take-home pay. Premiums have risen sharply due to inflation, and this change will have a devastating impact on the income security of federal employees. If Congress raises both FEHB premiums and FERS contributions to pay for these billionaires’ tax cuts, the reduction in net take-home pay will be substantial. ACT NOW!
