Save the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)

To: Rep. Trahan, Sen. Warren, Sen. Markey

From: A verified voter in Lowell, MA

April 9

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) plays a vital role in preserving America's cultural heritage and promoting education across the nation. Recent actions by the Trump administration and DOGE to slash NEH funding and cancel over 1,200 grants are misguided and will cause irreparable harm. The arts, humanities, and cultural sectors contribute significantly to our economy, with the sector growing at twice the rate of the overall economy between 2022 and 2023, adding $1.2 trillion to the GDP and supporting 5.4 million jobs. Eliminating federal support will damage this thriving industry and cost American jobs. Furthermore, the NEH's work in funding museums, libraries, historical sites, and educational programs enriches communities in every state. Cutting this funding robs Americans of access to their shared cultural legacy. I urge you to take immediate action to protect the congressionally mandated funding for the NEH and reject these destructive cuts that undermine our nation's heritage and economic well-being.
