Oppose HR 9495 and HR 6408

To: Rep. Schakowsky, Sen. Duckworth, Sen. Durbin

From: A verified voter in Evanston, IL

November 15

HR 6408 proposes to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to terminate the tax-exempt status of terrorist supporting organizations. These organizations are already illegal. By attaching HR 6408 to HR 9495, the House majority is trying to sneak in a way to punish nonprofits that do work for causes and people disfavored by the incoming administration. I ask you to vote against HR 9495 as long as it contains HR 6408 Trojan-Horsed along with it. Given the power to shut down nonprofits at will, the government would have too much power to destroy community aid and services needed at local levels. Actual terrorism is already illegal. Shutting down Planned Parenthood as terrorism (for example) should not be permitted to anyone without demonstrating actual terrorism being committed.
