Preserve Public Service Loan Forgiveness for dedicated professionals

To: Pres. Trump, Rep. Fleischmann, Sen. Blackburn, Sen. Hagerty

From: A constituent in Chattanooga, TN

March 8

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program was created to incentivize people to pursue careers in public service by providing student loan forgiveness after 10 years of payments. It benefits teachers, nurses, firefighters, military members, nonprofit workers, and others who provide vital services to communities. Limiting eligibility through vague definitions of "improper activities" undermines the program's intent and punishes those dedicated to public service careers. Instead of gutting PSLF, the focus should be on improving oversight and approval processes to ensure it operates effectively for the millions who have made career decisions based on this promised relief. Restricting loan forgiveness access will deter people from pursuing these critical yet underpaid roles, ultimately harming the communities that rely on their services.
