End assault on Gaza, protect Palestinian civilians

To: Rep. Wilson, Gov. Whitmer, Sen. Irwin

From: A constituent in Ypsilanti, MI

July 2

The ongoing Israeli military operation in Gaza has resulted in a grave humanitarian crisis, with 1.9 million Palestinians displaced from their homes, according to the United Nations. Hospitals like the European Hospital have been forced to evacuate patients, some still in their beds, due to Israeli orders for civilians to leave eastern areas of Khan Younis. Tent camps for the displaced in Khan Younis have also been emptied. This mass displacement and the violence inflicted on the civilian population is unacceptable and must be stopped immediately. Urgent action is needed to end the Israeli assault on Gaza, ensure the safety and protection of Palestinian civilians, and find a just and lasting resolution to the conflict that upholds the rights of the Palestinian people. The disproportionate force used against a densely populated civilian area is indefensible and a violation of international law. All parties must work towards de-escalation and a negotiated ceasefire to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
