The United States should reconsider providing billions of dollars in additional military aid to Israel amid the ongoing war in Gaza. This substantial financial assistance will enable Israel to continue its indiscriminate attacks on Palestinian civilians, resulting in more loss of innocent lives. The Israeli military has been accused of grave human rights violations, including killing civilians, torture, and denying access to basic necessities like water and medical care for displaced Palestinians. We cannot turn a blind eye to these atrocities by financing them. Instead of perpetuating this cycle of violence, the US should use its leverage to push for an immediate ceasefire and facilitate negotiations towards a just and lasting peace. Continuing to fund one side while turning a blind eye to its transgressions will only prolong the suffering of the Palestinian people and further destabilize the region. It is time to reassess our priorities and pursue a path that upholds human rights, promotes dialogue, and paves the way for a resolution that respects the dignity and self-determination of all people. Providing military aid under these circumstances is antithetical to our values as a nation.
