Oppose Trump's Scheme to Throw Out 20,000 California Ballots

To: Rep. DelBene, Sen. Murray, Gov. Ferguson, Rep. Kloba, Sen. Stanford, Pres. Trump, Sen. Cantwell, Rep. Duerr

From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA

October 18

Oppose the Trump administration's attempt to rig the midterm elections by blocking 20,000 California ballots from being counted. The Department of Justice filed suit against California and Los Angeles County in the middle of an active election, seeking a court order to discard ballots from voters it alleges, without evidence, are noncitizens. That is not law enforcement. That is election interference. Trump has also threatened California officials, including Gov. Newsom, with criminal prosecution on social media, writing that they "will all go to jail for a long period of time." Using the DOJ to intimidate elected officials into suppressing votes is an attack on every voter in this country, not just California. This follows a broader pattern of purging voter rolls and undermining vote-by-mail systems nationwide. Every eligible vote must be counted. Speak out forcefully against this lawsuit and make clear that no federal agency has the authority to discard ballots mid-election without proof of wrongdoing.
