Impose an arms embargo on Israel for targeting UN and Anera aid workers

To: Sen. Murphy, Sen. Blumenthal, Pres. Biden, Rep. Courtney

From: A verified voter in East Hampton, CT

August 31

The recent Israel airstrike on an Anera aid convoy en route to deliver vital medical supplies and fuel to a hospital in Gaza is an egregious violation of international humanitarian law. According to Anera's statement, the convoy was clearly marked and its movements were coordinated in advance with Israel authorities. Killing four unarmed civilians escorting the convoy is an unjustifiable act that demands accountability. This horrific attack follows another recent strike on a World Food Programme vehicle, forcing the UN agency to temporarily halt operations in Gaza. Such repeated targeting of humanitarian aid missions providing essential services to the besieged Palestinian population is unconscionable. Israel's actions deprive the people of Gaza access to basic needs like food, medical care and fuel during an ongoing crisis. In light of Israel's blatant disregard for the laws of armed conflict and international humanitarian norms, I urge you to support an immediate comprehensive arms embargo on Israel. Supplying more weapons only enables further civilian suffering and emboldens Israel's brutal military assault on the occupied Palestinian territories, which has claimed over 40,000 lives in Gaza. Israel must be held responsible for its war crimes through an arms embargo to compel it to end its violent aggression and finally respect human rights.
