The forcible entry of DOGE staff into the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) building with police assistance raises serious concerns about potential violations of the law and overreach by the administration. USIP is an independent, nonprofit organization funded by Congress, not a government agency under executive branch control. The actions taken appear to disregard USIP's legal status and autonomy. Retired diplomat George Moose, the lawfully appointed president and CEO of USIP, was reportedly forcibly removed from his office by police. USIP's legal counsel has stated they will challenge the administration's attempt to install new leadership as invalid and illegal. There are troubling implications for the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department assisting DOGE in this hostile takeover of a private organization. It suggests either a failure to properly evaluate the legal grounds for such an action or improper submission to political pressure from the administration. Either possibility is unacceptable and deserves a full accounting. I urge you to demand a thorough investigation and explanation from the D.C. police regarding their role in facilitating DOGE's entry into USIP premises against the objections of its lawful leadership. Any violation of USIP's institutional autonomy and legal rights must be condemned and remedied. The public deserves transparency on what appears to be an abuse of authority that undermines the rule of law.
