I am concerned about the waste of taxpayer dollars in the return to office executive order. This ill thought out executive order will cause the federal government millions of taxpayer dollars to implement and will cause productivity to decline within the government.
Between 2023 and 2024 GSA announced disposition projects that would save the federal government roughly $2 billion and reduced federal inventory by 6 million square feet. Over the last few years, hoteling for cubical has become widespread.
Forcing the entire federal workforce to return to office 5 days a week is wasting taxpayer money based on the increase in transit benefit amounts, the increase in rental agreements amounts for remote employees to be in federal office spaces, the cost to update IT networks within offices spaces to be able to handle all employees being in the building at headquarters offices. Just thinking about the costs on a single agency is mindblowing (easily millions) but across the government it will waste taxpayer dollars without any benefit to the taxpayer. Especially since this executive order seems to be politically motivated and senselessly attacks federal employees’ merits and work ethic.
