The Consumer Product Safety Commission — an agency literally created to track dangerous consumer products — is now quietly pressuring at least 100 major hospitals nationwide to hand over personally identifiable medical records for EVERY emergency room patient, according to a bombshell KFF Health News investigation. Not just injuries from faulty products. Everything: broken bones, childhood vaccine reactions, even suicide attempts. The data goes to a private contractor, Konza Health, which told hospital executives participation was "mandatory" — despite federal law explicitly barring health authorities from mandating private data collection like this. The CPSC's OWN 214-page manual instructs hospitals NOT to include identifying information like names and birthdates. This new program blows straight through that safeguard, demanding exactly the personal details the agency previously said it didn't need. All of this comes as the CPSC has been gutted from within: Trump fired all three Democratic board members last year, and nearly 1 in 5 career staffers have fled the agency since. What's left is being weaponized to build a private surveillance apparatus that even the agency's own former chairman finds baffling. "This idea that they can simply demand patient information from a hospital and that the hospital would provide it — I really don't understand the basis for that," said Alexander Hoehn-Saric, the Democratic appointee Trump ousted.
