I am writing to ask you to fight the White House’s attempt to repeal sections of Rehabilitation Act and American’s with Disabilities Act. This White House is actively searching for ways to institutionalize people with disabilities and/or mental illnesses (with no clear definitions of either) in order to create segregation in our society. Recently, they leaned into the idea, “Rather, it held only that a state cannot institutionalize such patients with- out justification. See 527 U.S. at 600 (majority opinion). What counts as adequate justification remains an OPEN QUESTION.” As a woman, I am painfully aware of the US history of institutionalizing women for having ideas, differing opinions and strong beliefs. Please, FIGHT this. This is oppression and discrimination.
