I am writing to express my deep concern about the recent actions of Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. Mr. Musk's recent communications with Ramzan Kadyrov, the president of Chechnya, raise serious questions about Mr. Musk's compliance with U.S. sanctions and his commitment to human rights.
As you know, the United States has imposed sanctions on Chechnya due to its human rights abuses. These sanctions include a ban on providing goods and services to the Chechen government. Mr. Musk's decision to provide a gun-mounted Tesla Cybertruck to Mr. Kadyrov appears to be a clear violation of these sanctions.
In addition, Mr. Musk's praise for Mr. Kadyrov is deeply troubling. Mr. Kadyrov has been accused of numerous human rights abuses, including torture, murder, and kidnapping. Mr. Musk's public support for Mr. Kadyrov suggests that Mr. Musk is either unaware of these abuses or does not care about them.
I urge you to take immediate action to investigate Mr. Musk's actions and hold him accountable for any violations of U.S. law. I also urge you to condemn Mr. Musk's praise for Mr. Kadyrov and call on him to retract his statements.
