Seeking Clemency for Dr Aafia Siddiqui - The Victim of All Victims

To: Rep. Fitzpatrick, Sen. Casey, Pres. Biden, Sen. Fetterman

From: A constituent in Feasterville Trevose, PA

December 12, 2024

I write to you with an urgent and impassioned plea for justice. Your recent decision to commute nearly 1,500 sentences and pardon 39 individuals demonstrated commendable compassion and a commitment to fairness. In that same spirit, I implore you to grant clemency to Dr. Aafia Siddiqui (Clemency Application No. C310439), whose case stands as a stark symbol of injustice and humanitarian concern that continues to reverberate globally. Dr. Siddiqui’s case demands immediate intervention. She is serving an unjust 86-year sentence at FMC Carswell under circumstances that are profoundly disturbing. Evidence shared by her pro bono attorneys suggests grave errors in her conviction and, more critically, undeniable human rights violations. Dr. Siddiqui was abducted by the CIA based on false intelligence, and her three children were also taken—one reportedly killed and the other two, both U.S. citizens, held in Afghanistan for years. The trauma inflicted upon her is unconscionable and represents one of the darkest injustices of the ‘War on Terror.’ As Americans, we are called to uphold justice and the dignity of all people. Allowing Dr. Siddiqui to remain imprisoned under such questionable circumstances undermines these core values. Her continued incarceration stains the integrity of our justice system. Even global leaders, such as Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, have appealed for her clemency, recognizing the profound humanitarian crisis her case represents. Moreover, her treatment at FMC Carswell is appalling. A federal lawsuit filed by her attorneys alleges she has been raped and sexually abused—claims supported by the fact that 13 employees, including a Christian minister, have been convicted of similar abuses at the facility. Dr. Siddiqui has endured 14 years of Administrative Segregation, the longest period served by any woman in the U.S. federal system, subjected to isolation and denied adequate medical care or therapy. She has even been barred from meeting with Imam Omar Suleiman, who has offered pro bono spiritual support. Her suffering must end. Her attorneys have proposed a humane plan for her release to a hospital, under the care of her sister, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, a Harvard-educated neurologist. Clemency for Dr. Siddiqui would not only affirm your administration’s dedication to human rights and justice but also heal a deep wound in the global consciousness. Mr. President, I urge you to act swiftly. Dr. Aafia Siddiqui has endured unimaginable suffering. The time to correct this grave injustice is now. Thank you for your immediate attention to this urgent matter and for your commitment to justice and compassion.
