I am writing to bring your attention to alarming data from Pew Research Center showing that Democratic constituents are experiencing unprecedented anger toward the federal government. According to a survey of 3,445 U.S. adults conducted in September, 44% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents now say they feel angry toward the federal government. This represents the highest level of anger expressed by members of either party since Pew began tracking this question in 1997, surpassing even the 34% peak during the previous Trump administration.
The partisan divide has never been wider. While 40% of Republicans say they are basically content with the federal government, only 8% of Democrats express contentment. This disparity reflects a fundamental disconnect between the current administration and its own base. Even more concerning, Democratic trust in the federal government has plummeted to just 9%, the lowest level recorded in nearly 70 years of polling on this question.
These numbers should serve as a wake-up call. When your own party's supporters express historic levels of anger and distrust, it signals that campaign promises are not translating into meaningful action. Frustration affects 47% of Democrats, meaning 91% of your base feels either frustrated or angry with the government they helped elect.
I urge you to acknowledge this crisis of confidence publicly and take concrete steps to address the concerns driving this anger. Your constituents need to see tangible progress on the issues that matter to them, not just rhetoric. The data shows that Democratic voters are more disillusioned with their government than at any point in modern polling history. This demands immediate attention and substantive policy action that demonstrates you are listening and responding to the people you represent.
