Reconsider SSA's undermining public communications and service cuts

To: Sen. Peters, Rep. Moolenaar, Sen. Slotkin, Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Hastings, MI

April 11

The Social Security Administration's plan to shift all public communications exclusively to X while gutting its regional office workforce is deeply concerning. Forcing the public and advocacy groups to rely solely on a private social media platform creates barriers to accessing vital information about Social Security benefits and services. This move raises transparency issues and undermines the agency's duty to serve all Americans equally, particularly those without internet access or familiarity with social media. Furthermore, the drastic staffing cuts jeopardize the agency's ability to combat fraud and fulfill its core mission. I urge you to reconsider this ill-advised decision that diminishes public oversight and impedes the effective administration of a critical social safety net program upon which millions rely. The SSA should maintain accessible, platform-neutral communications and retain subject matter experts to uphold program integrity and properly serve beneficiaries.
