Urge Biden to veto NDAA

To: Rep. Espaillat, Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in New York, NY

December 19

nal Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which will take away life saving, medically necessary health care from the transgender children of military familie As your constituent and supporter of LGBTQ+ equality, I am writing today to express my disappointment and outrage regarding your vote for the FY25 Natio s. thout this discriminatory provision. I am also writing to urge you to intervene now and call on President Biden to veto this hideous legislation. Send it back to Congress and let it pass wi anti-LGBTQ+ extremists who are playing politics with the health care of children of servicemembers. This cruel provision was added at the eleventh hour, and by voting in favor of the bill, you have allowed the normally bipartisan NDAA to be hijacked by ose access to medically necessary health care that they need to thrive. Moreover, your vote effectively means that military families are not able to make important health care decisions for their children. There are no words to express my sense of betrayal. Whether or not you support this provision, the impact of your vote is that some trans youth will l I have known service members with trans kids for decades. Before g I personally knew left the service so they could get a private sec don’t. tor job with health care that would cover these most basic needs of their child. Do you really think the USA will be stronger or safe r if the parents of trans kids are forced to leave the military? I ender affirming care was covered by TriCare several service members ge Act. And yet a majority of the Democratic delegation in both th ince the passage of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and the Defense of Marria e Senate and the House has voted for it. This will be the first anti-LGBTQ+ federal law in nearly 30 years–s to the core. As your constituent, and also as someone who voted for you, I am de confidence in your ability —and that of the Democratic Party gener eply disappointed in your failure to protect young trans people. My ally— to represent me, my family and my community has been shaken I urge you to restore my confidence by asking President Biden to veto the NDAA and send it back to Congress.
