Condemn Trump's Attack on Nobel Peace Prize Winner Navi Pillay

To: Rep. Pingree, Pres. Trump, Sen. Collins, Sen. King

From: A constituent in Damariscotta, ME

October 11

Please speak out against the president's disgraceful attacks on 2026 Nobel Peace Prize winner Navi Pillay. Trump publicly declared he knows nothing about her, dismissed her life's work, and called the Nobel committee "Enemies of Civilization" — all because he wasn't chosen. This is not the behavior of a statesman. It's a tantrum. Pillay spent decades challenging apartheid, serving on the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, and helping establish legal precedents that recognize sexual violence as an act of genocide. Trump's claim that he deserved eight Nobel prizes is disputed by the facts — several of the conflicts he cited remain unresolved, and his role in others is contested. Attacking a decorated human rights jurist to nurse a personal grievance embarrasses this country on the world stage. Your constituents are watching. We expect our elected officials to hold the line when the president's conduct crosses into the indefensible. Say clearly and publicly that this behavior is unacceptable.
