I am writing to urge you to protect and maintain funding for domestic violence and sexual assault survivor support services, particularly for organizations like Turning Point, the domestic violence shelter in Mount Clemens, Michigan. These vital resources provide lifesaving assistance to survivors, offering shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and crisis intervention. With the increasing political attacks on funding for these essential services—especially in light of policies and budget threats from the current Trump administration—I am deeply concerned that survivors will be left without the critical support they need. Domestic violence and sexual assault programs rely on consistent and sufficient federal funding to continue their work, and any reduction in funding puts lives at risk. As my elected representative, I ask you to: 1 Publicly commit to protecting and increasing funding for domestic violence and sexual assault survivor programs, including shelters, crisis hotlines, and advocacy services. 2 Advocate against any cuts to programs such as the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), which provide critical resources to organizations like Turning Point. 3 Ensure that survivors and the agencies supporting them are not left vulnerable due to political agendas or budget cuts. The work being done by these organizations is not optional—it is essential to the safety and well-being of survivors and our communities. I urge you to take a stand and ensure that funding remains intact and protected.
