The Social Security Administration is facing severe workforce reductions that could negatively impact millions of Americans who rely on its services. Cutting up to 50% of the agency's 60,000 employees will diminish its ability to process claims and provide assistance in a timely manner, effectively reducing benefits for retirees, people with disabilities, and others. While finding cost savings is prudent, such drastic cuts will strain an already overburdened system and deny access to earned benefits for many vulnerable people. A more balanced approach is needed that protects this vital social safety net program and the skilled workforce that administers it. I urge you to reconsider these extreme personnel cuts and instead pursue reforms that maintain adequate staffing levels and service capacity at the Social Security Administration. Preserving this fundamental program should be a priority to uphold our commitment to America's seniors and people with disabilities.
