No DHS funding without reform

To: Pres. Trump, Sen. Murray, Rep. Jayapal, Sen. Cantwell

From: A verified voter in Seattle, WA

January 25

Yet again, the agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have killed a citizen engaged in actions protected by the first amendment. The murder today of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, an ICU nurse who worked to support veterans when they were most in need, was an egregious abuse of power by an agency whose leadership has clearly encouraged their agents to punish protected speech, to ignore fourth amendment protections, and, in this case to ignore the second amendment as well. As a result, THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY MUST NOT BE FUNDED UNTIL REFORMS ARE PUT IN PLACE. There can be no compromise. I am calling on the President to ask for the resignation of Secretary Noem and leadership of ICE as well as his FBI director. As part of the needed reforms, I am calling on congress to rescind the authorization of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to carry firearms and to clarify their scope of practice - excluding policing of constitutionally guaranteed freedoms. Now is the time to end this fiasco. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
