Honor the offer made to ALL of our troops

To: Rep. McDonald Rivet, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Midland, MI

August 9

I’m writing concerning the denial of early retirement to long-serving transgender service members of the air force. These service members have honorably served their country for 15-18 years, according to news sites (Reuters). To force them out without a retirement plan, as they were offered earlier, is blatantly wrong. According to the article, there are over 4,200 transgender troops currently serving. After putting in their time for serving our country, they deserve a fair retirement – as do all service members. This action services as one more bigoted action by the current administration. As an LGBTQ+ ally, I demand that ALL of our service members be treated equally and receive the retirement they were offered. Frankly, I’m tired of having our president and his cronies single out others different from them. It’s bigoted and vile. If a felon (34 times) can be commander in chief, with a bigoted record and a full retirement package after four years, then our service members --- all of them, regardless of gender identity --- can be given the retirement they were offered.
