# Require Waterless Cooling Before Approving New Data Centers Stop approving new data center projects until AI companies solve the water crisis they're creating. The AI boom doesn't have to drain our finite water resources, but right now that's exactly what's happening. We need a moratorium across every jurisdiction until these companies implement waterless cooling technology. The solutions already exist. Immersion cooling, closed-loop direct-to-chip systems, two-phase cooling, and waterless heat rejection eliminate water consumption entirely. Dielectric fluid systems use specialized non-conductive fluids instead of millions of gallons from our aquifers. These aren't experimental technologies. They work. AI companies just need to be required to use them. Make waterless cooling mandatory in every contract and permit. The burden of solving this problem belongs to the corporations profiting from AI, not to our neighborhoods and towns watching water tables drop. Future generations shouldn't pay the price for today's data center expansion. Require binding commitments to waterless systems before another shovel hits the ground.
