An Open Letter

To: Sen. Schumer, Rep. Velázquez, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY

July 31

The removal of accomplished female leaders from top military positions without justification is concerning and sends a troubling message to current and prospective female service members. This trend, coupled with rhetoric diminishing the roles of women in combat, risks undermining force readiness and recruitment at a time when the military needs all capable individuals serving. Women have proven their capabilities across all roles, meeting the highest standards. Promoting merit-based policies that provide equal opportunities is crucial for maintaining an effective fighting force reflective of society's diversity and values. Reversing this corrosive pattern and empowering talented leaders, regardless of gender, should be a priority to strengthen national security.
