Reject undemocratic proposals in budget bill protecting voter rights

To: Gov. Pritzker, Sen. Duckworth, Pres. Trump, Sen. Durbin, Rep. Welch, Rep. García, Sen. Lightford

From: A constituent in Elmhurst, IL

June 3

The proposed provisions in the budget bill pose a grave threat to our democracy and technological progress. Measures that make it more difficult for people to vote, strip resources from election officials, inject partisan politics into the election process undermine free and fair elections. Restricting the regulation of AI and imposing contempt of court restrictions severely impede our ability to govern emerging technologies and uphold the rule of law. We must safeguard the fundamental right of every eligible citizen to cast their ballot, have it counted accurately, and hold our institutions accountable through the power of judges to find anyone in contempt of court. Any efforts to undermine these sacred principles erode the very foundations of our representative government. I urge you to reject these undemocratic proposals and uphold the integrity of our electoral system, judicial system's authority, and ability to properly regulate AI.
