The national weather service and national oceanic and atmospheric administration were crippled by the Trump administration's defunding of these organizations, leaving them understaffed. This resulted in inadequate warnings and monitoring capabilities, directly contributing to the tragic loss of life and suffering from the catastrophic floods in central Texas. These horrific deaths and devastation were preventable had proper notice been given to the impacted communities.
