Cosponsor No Kings Act to protect democracy from unchecked corruption.

To: Rep. Velázquez, Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY

April 4

Reintroduce the No Kings Act and preserve democracy by reaffirming that no one – not even the president – is above the law. Our democracy faces a grave threat from the Supreme Court's partisan ruling granting sweeping immunity to presidents, shielding even criminal acts committed under the guise of "official duties." This enables corruption and removes vital checks and balances. The No Kings Act proposed by Senators Reed, Whitehouse, and others is crucial to restoring accountability by clarifying that presidents lack immunity for criminal actions. It rightfully strips the Supreme Court of jurisdiction over such matters, preventing further judicial overreach. The law's robust guardrails, including expedited challenges in lower courts, ensure a fair but firm process. Passing the No Kings Act would reinforce that ours is a nation of laws, not monarchs – preserving American values like equality under the law and protecting our democracy.
