Universities have a fundamental role in preserving academic freedom and fostering open inquiry. Their ability to establish admissions policies, curricula, and research agendas without undue political interference is essential for maintaining educational excellence. Attempts by government officials to unduly influence or constrain universities undermine this critical independence. I stand with Harvard. We urge prioritizing the autonomy of institutions of higher learning to uphold their vital societal mission.
