Stand Firm for Our Communities: Call for a One-Year Data Center Moratorium I am a voting writing to urge you to immediately enact a one-year moratorium on all new data center development. Our local communities are facing an unsustainable influx of massive data center projects. These facilities place immense strains on our shared infrastructure, consume vast amounts of electrical power, and threaten critical water resources. Despite these severe environmental and economic consequences, predatory corporations continue to force rapid expansion, routinely shirking the fundamental rights, health, and well-being of the residents they displace or impact. This headlong rush is further compounded by the president’s flippant disregard for constituents’ valid concerns regarding environmental destruction and grid stability. When federal leadership dismisses the voices of everyday citizens, federal legislators, state and local officials must step up to serve as a line of defense. A one-year moratorium is a reasonable and necessary pause. It will grant our towns and municipalities the critical time needed to conduct independent environmental assessments, update outdated zoning laws, and establish robust safeguards against corporate exploitation. We must prioritize public welfare and sustainable growth over unchecked corporate profit. Take action to protect our communities and enact this moratorium today.
