Protect Healthcare for the Needy

To: Rep. Rogers, Sen. Tuberville, Sen. Britt

From: A constituent in Auburn, AL

May 12

I am writing to urge you, as my elected representative, to oppose any efforts to cut funding for healthcare programs that support vulnerable populations in our state and across the country. As a person of faith, I believe our policies should reflect the values of compassion, justice, and care for our neighbors—principles deeply rooted in the Bible. Scripture consistently calls us to look after the sick, the poor, and the marginalized. In Matthew 25:36, Jesus teaches, “I was sick and you looked after me,” emphasizing that how we treat the most vulnerable among us is how we treat Christ Himself. Likewise, Proverbs 31:8–9 instructs us to “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves… defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Cutting healthcare funding contradicts these values. Instead of withdrawing support, we should be working to strengthen systems that provide healing and dignity to every person made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Caring for the sick is not merely a political issue; it is a moral imperative. I respectfully ask you to consider the moral weight of your decisions and stand against any legislation that would weaken access to healthcare for those who need it most. Please advocate instead for policies that protect life, promote well-being, and affirm our collective responsibility to one another. Thank you for your service and your attention to this important issue. I write with respect and hope.
