Reject military action, pursue diplomacy with Panama respectfully.

To: Sen. Cornyn, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Rep. Dean, Rep. Moran, Gov. Abbott, Sen. Hughes, Pres. Trump, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Kilgore, TX

March 13

We must take a firm stance against any potential military action in Panama or the seizure of the Panama Canal by force. The canal's neutrality is enshrined in Panama's constitution, and forcibly "reclaiming" it would be a blatant violation of Panama's sovereignty. Military intervention would not only undermine international law and our commitment to diplomatic relations, but it would also severely damage our standing in the global community. Furthermore, the pretext of countering Chinese influence is a dubious justification for such an extreme measure. There is no credible evidence that China's involvement in Panama poses a legitimate security threat to the United States or disrupts the free flow of maritime traffic through the canal. Escalating tensions and provoking confrontation with China over this issue is unwise and risks broader geopolitical instability. Instead of entertaining reckless military options, we should seek to strengthen economic and cultural ties with Panama through constructive engagement and mutually beneficial cooperation. A commitment to resolving any concerns through peaceful dialogue and negotiation would better serve our long-term interests and values as a nation. I urge you to reject any proposals for military action against Panama and to pursue a diplomatic resolution that respects Panama's autonomy and the rule of law.
