REVOKE the 2001 AUMF IMMEDIATELY

To: Rep. Moulton, Sen. Warren, Sen. Markey

From: A constituent in Lynn, MA

March 2

I urge you, with haste, to revoke the 2001 Authorized Use of Military Force. This authorization gives the President sweeping powers to bomb, invade, attack, or otherwise destabilize foreign powers. This broad definition puts far too much concentrated power in the hands of one man. It must be revoked; immediately. The 2001 AUMF does not have a sunset date, and has global scope. It was written to authorize actions against the perpetrators of 9/11, yet it has been used far beyond this scope. It targets no specific group or entity, it’s broad definition gives the President sweeping powers and little accountability. Congress must reclaim it’s authority. It must revoke the 2001 AUMF before it is used to drag us into more endless wars which will only serve to benefit the ruling class and spark agitation and violence against the Union and her people. Let me be perfectly clear, our actions in the Middle East (bombing schools, shooting children, mothers, doctors, teachers, etc., preventing humanitarian relief, etc.) make us less safe. They only serve the interests of those who hate it. It is no question why many nations of the world proclaim us the “Great Satan”. We massacre their neighbors and then are shocked when they do the same to us. If we want peace, if we want freedom, if we want prosperity; we must end the forver wars. As your constituent I demand your immediate action in revoking Congress’ 2001 AUMF. I will be watching.
